Course Description and Purpose

This course is written for those who seek to provide a Mason relational approach to science education. In this course, students will learn:

  • The historical context of science education, including the problems that Mason observed
  • What Mason had to say about science and why
  • What a Mason relational science education looked like in the 20th century
  • The reasons why various reformers throughout the 20th-21st centuries have called for relationship in science education,
  • Why and how to bring a Mason Science education into the 21st century
    • a structure by which we can provide for relationship in science education,
    • specific methods through which nature immersion, literature, and inquiry build interest, confidence, and literacy in scientific knowledge
    • a structure by which we can evaluate relationship in education.
